23-year-old Nicole Richie is the daughter of legendary pop icon Lionel Richie and has also benefited from a life of privilege.
She's been best friends with socialite Paris Hilton since they were two and they were classmates at the renowned private school Buckley.
When Nicole was 3 she began living with future father Lionel Richie, 6 years later he adopted her because her parents could provide for her as well.
Later on in her teen years, she began to experiment with drugs and drinking.
She began to go to college but a few years into it she dropped out, saying that she wanted to be a musician.
She was in an unknown band called Darling, with a model and two other socialite sisters (not Nikki and Paris Hilton, mind you).
Then, at 20 she was arrested for a DUI, then in October 2002 charges were dropped for a nightclub brawl. Then February 27,
2003 she was busted for driving with a revoked license and possesion of a controlled substance.
The cops found a balloon of heroin in her car (she says she was driving a friends car, and she didn't know about the heroin, although she admits to having a drug problem).
She checked herself into an Arizona rehab center (her second rehab, she was in one at the time of arrest) and was sentanced to three years' probation in August, 2003. 
"I've been sober since March. No drinking, no drugs, and I have someone who checks up on me. And I'm definitely happier now," said Nicole of her addictions. 
After her drug scandals had cooled came the release of the smash hit reality TV show, The Simple Life, in December, 2003.
The show featured her and, best friend and heiress, Paris Hilton as they spent a month living the simple life with an Arkansas family.
Currently Nicole says that she's going to release an album sometime soon, and hopefully become an actress, singer, and dancer.
She's still a wild child, but no longer smoking, drinking, or doing drugs.She has 9 tattoos and a least 5 piercings.
